During the game yesterday, they said Mickey was his favorite player.
Mickey asked him why he didn’t use him in the song
Simon said something about the rhyme.

DiMaggio's name had more syllables, making it work as far as singing that one line..

I think he was being nice. DiMaggio was an icon for that generation he is looking back to. Mick is more contemporary to me.
The words and voice are strikingly simple, I hear NYC in his voice.
Simon alone in Centerfield where they both stood, At Bat 5, on the scoreboard, looking toward home plate and singing to this crowd was a nice moment.
